Monster Hunter Rise has sold more than 20 million units across all platforms, Capcom announced on 6 October 2026, as reported by Gematsu and Nintendo Life. The milestone lands five and a half years after the game's Switch launch in March 2021, and while the Steam version is discounted to $3.99.
This story is built on Capcom's Platinum Titles list, the Steam store and Steam's player API (read on 6 October 2026 at 06:37 UTC), and SteamCharts' monthly averages. The 20 million figure comes from a celebratory message and artwork Capcom shared, which both outlets quote; when we checked, the Platinum Titles list had not yet been updated and still showed Rise at 19.3 million.
How does 20 million compare with World and Wilds?
Rise is now the second-best-selling release on Capcom's Monster Hunter list. Monster Hunter: World is still ahead at 22.40 million units, or 30.40 million if you count the Iceborne Master Edition bundle, which leaves Rise about 2.4 million short. Monster Hunter Wilds, released in February 2025, stands at 11.80 million.
Gematsu notes that Rise was last reported at 19.3 million in June, so it has added roughly 700,000 units in about three months. That is a notable pace for a game in its sixth year, and Capcom's own announcement pointed new players straight to the current digital discounts.
| Game | Release | Units sold (million) |
|---|---|---|
| Monster Hunter: World | Jan 2018 | 22.40* |
| Monster Hunter Rise | Mar 2021 | 20+ |
| Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (expansion) | Sep 2019 | 16.70 |
| Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (expansion) | Jun 2022 | 11.90 |
| Monster Hunter Wilds | Feb 2025 | 11.80 |
| Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate | Mar 2017 | 5.40 |
What is the Steam sale doing to Rise's player count?
On 6 October the US Steam store listed Rise at $3.99, 90% off its $39.99 price, which puts it among the cheapest well-reviewed games in the Steam Autumn Sale. At 06:37 UTC, 12,993 people were playing it. SteamCharts recorded a 24-hour peak of 22,864, nearly three times its 30-day average of 7,718 and well above September's average of 6,747.
Wilds still has the bigger live audience, with 21,565 players at the same moment. The gap in reputation runs the other way: Rise sits at 83.5% positive across 127,151 Steam reviews, while Wilds is at 49.6% of 332,591, rated Mixed. We looked at why the newer game's sales slowed in our feature on the Wilds PC problem.

What does it mean if you have not played Rise?
Rise is currently the cheapest way into modern Monster Hunter on PC. The base game covers the main campaign; the Sunbreak expansion, which adds the higher-rank endgame, is sold separately and was listed at $5.99 (85% off $39.99) on the same day. The Rise + Sunbreak bundle cost $9.59, slightly less than buying both separately at $9.98.

The 14 weapon types carry over between the two games, so our Wilds weapon types guide is a reasonable primer for picking a starting weapon. Systems differ, though: Rise's Wirebugs and Palamute mounts do not work the way Wilds' Focus Mode and Seikret do, so treat our Wilds beginner guide as Wilds-specific.
What we don't know yet
Capcom has not given a platform split for the 20 million, nor said how much of the recent growth came from discounts. The exact figure will appear when Capcom next refreshes its Platinum Titles list, and we will update this story if it changes the picture against World.
