Castlevania Turns 40 With a Free Mobile Port Until 24 October and Steam Discounts of Up to 80%

Konami is marking Castlevania's 40th anniversary by giving away the original game on mobile: Castlevania: 40th Anniversary is free on iOS and Android until 24 October 2026, and a Castlevania sale is running on Steam and the PlayStation Store, as VGC reported. The first Castlevania came out on the Famicom Disk System on 26 September 1986, so the anniversary itself falls on Saturday.

What exactly is free, and for how long?

The free app is the 1986 original, the game that introduced Simon Belmont, published by Konami under the name Castlevania: 40th Anniversary. The Google Play listing describes it as available "for a limited time". According to Time Extension and VGC, it can be claimed until 24 October 2026 and will then be delisted, but anyone who has claimed it can keep downloading and playing it afterwards.

Push Square reports that this version has no ads and no in-app purchases, and that it is the full game rather than a trial.

Which Castlevania games are discounted on Steam?

Five Castlevania releases are cut on Steam, and every store page says the offer ends on 1 October. We added each one's Steam user rating so the discount can be weighed against what players think of it.

On price per game, the Anniversary Collection is the obvious pick: eight games for $3.99, or roughly 50 cents each. On player sentiment, the Dominus Collection leads at 94.2% positive, with the Advance Collection close behind; together they hold the exploration-focused 2D entries released from the early 2000s. Push Square notes that Castlevania compilations are also discounted on the PlayStation Store, but we have not checked PlayStation prices, which vary by region.

Is Konami teasing a 3D Castlevania collection?

Nothing is announced. The theory comes from fans watching Konami's 40th Anniversary Celebration trailer: around the 1:21 mark, Simon walks past four paintings showing Belmont's Curse, Curse of Darkness, Lament of Innocence and Lords of Shadow. Time Extension and GameSpot both covered the speculation, and Time Extension points out that Konami has made no statement. Treat it as a rumour, not a leak.

When is Castlevania: Belmont's Curse out?

The anniversary's main event is a new game. Belmont's Curse, co-developed by Konami and Evil Empire with advice from Dead Cells studio Motion Twin, follows Trevor Belmont's daughter Rose through Paris in 1499. According to VGC, it launches on 15 October on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC, with a demo on 1 October whose save data transfers to the full game on the same platform and account. The Steam page lists it at $29.99, with a release date of 14 October in its US listing.

Konami's press release, reproduced by GoNintendo, also mentions a merchandise line-up. Exact concert dates and ticket details have not been published yet.

What should you do now?

• Claim the free mobile version before 24 October even if you won't play it soon: it stays in your library after the window closes.
• If you want the classics on PC, buy before 1 October. The Anniversary Collection is the cheapest way in; the Dominus and Advance collections are the best-rated.
• Undecided on Belmont's Curse? The demo lands on 1 October, two weeks before launch, and your progress carries over if you stay on the same platform and account.
