Terraria has 37 secret world seeds: 35 arrived with the Bigger and Boulder update (1.4.5) on 27 January 2026, and patch 1.4.5.7 added two more on PC on 19 August. You type a phrase such as 'too easy' or 'mole people' into the World Seed field when you create a world, and the game remembers it so you can switch it on again later.

This guide is built on Re-Logic's 1.4.5 announcement, the 1.4.5.7 changelog and the seed list on the official Terraria Wiki, which records every code and the in-game description of each seed. Checked against patch 1.4.5.7 on 3 October 2026. We have not generated these worlds ourselves: where Re-Logic and the wiki disagree, both versions are given.

What are secret seeds in Terraria?

A secret seed is a code phrase that changes how a new world is generated or how it behaves once you are in it. Some are cosmetic, such as 'monochrome', which paints the whole world grey. Others rewrite the run: 'too easy' starts the world in Hardmode, and 'mole people' removes the surface layer entirely.

Re-Logic's reasoning, in its 1.4.5 announcement, was that world seeds were an under-used feature: players either did not know they existed or found typing codes a chore. So 1.4.5 added the World Seed Menu, opened with the small seed icon next to the World Seed field, where special seeds can be ticked and combined. The secret seeds were deliberately left for players to find; the community had uncovered the original 35 within about ten days, the last being 'we don't even test for that' on 6 February 2026, according to the wiki.

How do you enter a secret seed in Terraria 1.4.5?

The process is the same on every platform that has the 1.4.5 update:

  1. Go to Single Player, pick a character and choose to create a new world.
  2. Select the World Seed field and type the phrase exactly as listed below. The wiki notes that spacing, capital letters and special characters are ignored, so 'beammeup' and 'beam me up' do the same thing.
  3. Create the world. From then on, the seed is unlocked: open the World Seed Menu with the seed icon and it sits in the secret seed list, ready to switch on or off. The wiki dates the toggle sub-menu to patch 1.4.5.4 and the in-game seed descriptions to 1.4.5.5.

Secret seeds only affect worlds you create after entering them. Nothing in Re-Logic's notes suggests an existing world can be converted, so plan a fresh world for each experiment.

Every Terraria secret seed code and what it does

The table follows the wiki's own grouping, from paint jobs to seeds that change the rules. Effects are the short in-game descriptions as recorded on the wiki, lightly reworded; a few names are jokes that mean the opposite of what they say ('more traps please' removes traps).

Which secret seeds were added in patch 1.4.5.7?

Two, both about lightning. The 1.4.5.7 changelog only says Re-Logic "added two new secret seeds" (followed by "Shocking, isn't it?"), keeping the tradition of not printing the codes. The wiki identifies them as 'electric boogaloo', which makes lightning strike more often, and 'calm before the storm', which switches lightning strikes off.

The same patch also tidied up existing seeds: spikes, pressure plates and geysers are now removed if the spawn point lands on them, Devourers and World Feeders can spawn on 'royale with cheese' plus 'purify this' worlds once the Eater of Worlds is dead, and the two-Dungeon worlds got "many improvements", including how they interact with 'waterpark' and Not the Bees.

Which secret seeds change the game the most?

Most of the list is flavour: a grey world, a snowy world, a world with a lot more Living Trees. A handful change how a playthrough goes, and these are the ones worth reading about before you commit a character to them.

  • too easy starts the world in Hardmode, so the usual pre-Hardmode climb to the Wall of Flesh is skipped.
  • what a horrible night to have a curse is the vampire seed Re-Logic teased in January: its announcement simply warned that vampires "would be wise to avoid the sun at all costs".
  • double daring dangers answers Re-Logic's own pitch for a world where the Dungeon is bigger, there are more of them and you spend more time inside.
  • royale with cheese is built for multiplayer: each team gets its own starting territory, which Re-Logic suggests for co-op, capture-the-gem or Hardcore team PvP.
  • mole people, planetoids and night of the living dead reshape the map or the mood from day one: no surface, a world of small planetoids, or graveyards everywhere and a world that starts on a Blood Moon.

Can you combine secret seeds?

Yes. Re-Logic's line in the 1.4.5 announcement is that secret seeds "can be combined" like special seeds, and that "specific combinations have special interactions", which it left for players to discover. The 1.4.5.7 notes confirm a few of those pairings exist, such as 'royale with cheese' with 'purify this'.

At the extreme end, the wiki describes 'True Zenith': every secret seed plus every special seed except Skyblock, which it calls the hardest world difficulty possible. A question that keeps coming up on r/Terraria is which seeds pair best with Skyblock. There is no official answer, and nobody has documented the combinations systematically, so treat any 'best combo' list you find as one player's opinion.

What are the special seeds, and how do they differ?

Special seeds are the older, bigger cousins. According to the wiki's special seeds page, they change mechanics, enemy behaviour, drops, graphics and music rather than just the shape of the world, and since 1.4.5 they no longer need a code at all: they are selectable in the World Seed Menu. Their codes are listed below for reference.

Skyblock is the 1.4.5 headline. Re-Logic describes it as a world without any ground where you start on a tiny island in the sky and resources are scarce, and its December 2024 State of the Game said the aim was to make a format known for being grindy and experts-only more approachable.

Do secret seeds work on console, Switch and mobile?

Yes. The wiki records the secret seeds arriving with the 1.4.5 update on console, Switch and mobile as well as PC. The two lightning seeds are the exception to watch: 1.4.5.7 came out on PC first, with console and mobile builds sent to certification afterwards. In its September State of the Game, Re-Logic said console and mobile are no longer months behind PC and that Crossplay Phase One (1.4.6) is close to submission. If 'electric boogaloo' does nothing on your platform, check that your version number reads 1.4.5.7 or later.

Modded players are a separate case. The stable tModLoader still runs on Terraria 1.4.4, and its team says the 1.4.5 port lives on a preview branch, so the new seeds and the World Seed Menu are not part of a normal modded setup yet.

If a seed world is not enough, our guide to the best Terraria mods covers Thorium, Fargo's and the rest of the tModLoader scene. For the bigger picture, Terraria vs Minecraft compares the two sandboxes, and everything else we publish on the game lives on the Terraria hub.

FAQ

How many secret seeds are there in Terraria?

37 as of patch 1.4.5.7. The Bigger and Boulder update (1.4.5, 27 January 2026) shipped 35, and 1.4.5.7 added 'electric boogaloo' and 'calm before the storm' on PC on 19 August 2026. The nine special seeds, such as 'for the worthy' and 'skyblock', are counted separately.

How do you enter a secret seed in Terraria?

Start creating a new world and type the phrase into the World Seed field. According to the Terraria Wiki, spaces, capitals and punctuation are ignored. Once a secret seed has been discovered, it appears in the World Seed Menu, where it can be switched on or off for future worlds.

What is the vampire seed code in Terraria?

The code is 'what a horrible night to have a curse'. Re-Logic teased the vampire effect in its 1.4.5 announcement, warning that vampires should avoid the sun; the Terraria Wiki lists the phrase and describes the effect as playing as a vampire.

Can you combine secret seeds with Skyblock?

Yes. Secret seeds can be combined with each other and with all special seeds, Skyblock included. Re-Logic says specific combinations have special interactions. The wiki's 'True Zenith' combination, however, uses every seed except Skyblock.

Do secret seeds work on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and mobile?

Yes. The 35 seeds from 1.4.5 arrived with the console, Switch and mobile versions of the update. The two 1.4.5.7 seeds launched on PC first; Re-Logic said in August that console and mobile builds were in certification, so check your version number.
