Enshrouded 1.0: What's New and What Happens to Your Early Access Save

Enshrouded 1.0 opens the full map, adds Cinder's Cradle and a level 50 cap, and resets your skill tree. What changed, and what happens to Early Access saves.

Enshrouded 1.0 launched on 15 October 2026 on PC and PS5, and it is the biggest update the game has had: the whole map of Embervale is open, a new volcanic biome called Cinder's Cradle concludes the story, the level cap rises to 50 and mages get nine new spells. Early Access saves carry over and PC owners do not pay again, but every existing character has its skill tree reset, and Keen Games openly recommends starting a new world.

This guide is built on Keen Games' full 1.0 changelog (14 October), its launch FAQ (13 October), the 1.0 combat preview (23 September) and the notes for hotfixes 1.0.0.1, 1.0.0.2 and 1.0.0.3. It is checked against hotfix 1.0.0.3 (21 October 2026); nothing here comes from hands-on play, and anything Keen has not documented is flagged as such.

What is new in Enshrouded 1.0?

The headline is a complete map. North of the Veilwater Basin, gates that stayed shut through Early Access now open onto Cinder's Cradle, a biome Keen describes as a lava wasteland below and a realm of floating islands above. The changelog puts its size between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin and says it holds 12 new Shroud Roots, the collectibles that give skill points.

The rest of the map grew too. Springlands, Blackmire and the Kindlewastes gain playable areas towards the edge of the world, with new quests and six more Shroud Roots, although Keen warns that these zones are less dense than the main path. Two new Hollow Halls, the game's dungeons, which Keen says are best tackled with friends, open in the Albaneve Summits and the Veilwater Basin, and most former no-build zones now accept player bases.

1.0 also concludes the main story. The main quest sends players back into structures in older biomes that, in Keen's words, had players looking for "a hidden entrance for years". Quests are now split into main and side quests, and a new survivor specialising in Ancient recipes joins your base with the next crafting tier.

What happens to my Early Access save and character?

If you bought Enshrouded on PC during Early Access, you do not need to buy it again: the launch FAQ says so in as many words. Early Access worlds and characters load in 1.0 and are converted to a new, more efficient save format the first time you open them.

Keen still "strongly encourages" a fresh start, because the world and the first few hours were reworked: more chests in the Springlands and Revelwood, clearer roads, re-paced early recipes and a reshaped terrain in several biomes. An old world keeps your bases, but you would miss much of that rework.

If the conversion stalled for you, try again after hotfix 1.0.0.3 (21 October). Characters with invalid entries in their extra backpack slots now migrate, minus the items that blocked the process. Bases whose Flame Altar sat outside the voxel grid have it moved back into place, but Keen says that base's water cannot be loaded and has to be re-added by hand.

One known issue: a crash during save migration was fixed in hotfix 1.0.0.2, but corrupted characters are now skipped rather than converted. If a character is missing from your list, Keen says a fix that migrates and repairs them is in progress.

Do Early Access players get a reward?

Yes, three decorative base props: a statue more than four metres tall, a tome bearing the old Early Access "E" logo, and a signal light. Early Access owners claim them from the "Redeem Add-Ons" button in the escape menu. Players who buy later cannot place them, but an Early Access owner can visit their world and place them there, and the items can be claimed repeatedly. If the rewards were missing for you, hotfix 1.0.0.3 (21 October) says affected owners can now redeem them from the pause menu.

What changed for mages, archers and combat?

Mages were the focus. Keen's combat preview lists nine new spells: Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Ball Lightning, Summon Fire Totem, Summon Ice Totem, Summon Shock Totem and Summon Hollow Skeleton. Every spell now has an Eternal version that never runs out of charges, and Eternal spells and arrows can be upgraded like gear, with perks such as reduced mana cost.

Wands get a heavy attack that pierces enemies, plus unlockable Aerial and Evasion wand attacks. New mage skills include Advanced Necromancy and Totem Mastery (more summons) and Blast and Cast, which raises your next staff attack's base damage by 50% after a wand critical hit. Archers get Puncture, Barrage and Survival Instinct, three new Eternal arrows (Fire, Shock and Bone) and configurable aim assist, on by default for controllers and off for mouse and keyboard.

The Albaneve Summits boss was also reworked with a substantial health nerf, a wider arena and grapple anchors to climb back after being knocked off. Locked chests in the new biome need a new tier of Archaic lockpicks.

Which quality-of-life changes matter most?

Most of the 1.0 list is about friction. The changes Keen itself highlights in the changelog:

  • Airborne Architect, a skill at the centre of the tree, lets you build in a free-flying mode.
  • Storage chests can be upgraded in place, without emptying them.
  • Scattered loot can be picked up in a larger radius, on a button or automatically via a gameplay setting.
  • Custom map markers and chests can be named, and updraft charge time is a world setting.
  • Characters can switch between classic and new, more realistic proportions at the Barber.
  • Fishing uses tiered bait to target specific fish, with better odds of high-quality catches.
  • All lore notes, plus the main crafting and quest-giver survivors, are voiced in English, German and Mandarin Chinese.

Two bigger systems sit alongside them. Sparkworks is a logic system with its own 2D graph editor for wiring traps, puzzles, switches and enemy encounters into shareable adventures. A new "brick renderer" keeps distant terrain and voxel buildings detailed, and 1.0 adds HDR support.

Is Enshrouded 1.0 on PS5, Xbox and Steam Deck, and is it crossplay?

Enshrouded launched on PC and on PS5, including PS5 Pro, on 15 October. The Xbox Series X|S version was delayed to spring 2027; Keen CEO Jan Jockel said the studio did not want to "compromise on quality", as reported by Gematsu. Questions about the PS5 version were common before launch, such as this r/Enshrouded thread asking why there was no price or preview two days out.

There is no crossplay. Keen's FAQ says it is working on cross-platform play but has "no current estimate". On PC, the Steam store page lists the game as Steam Deck Verified, and the changelog cites better performance on handhelds, low-end graphics cards and the Deck. The minimum spec asks for 16 GB of RAM, a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 6 GB, and 60 GB of storage.

What problems has 1.0 had so far?

Three hotfixes landed in the first week. Hotfix 1.0.0.1 fixed random crashes, an indoor lighting bug and crashes caused by some PC peripherals, and fixed the Fire Wisp scroll at level 27 because its damage had scaled into the endgame. It also broke world-setting edits, which hotfix 1.0.0.2 repaired along with a grey-fog rendering bug on Nvidia cards and several server and adventure-sharing crashes (if you host your own world, our Enshrouded dedicated server guide covers setup, passwords and difficulty settings). Hotfix 1.0.0.3 followed on 21 October with more crash fixes (water simulation, factories, leaving the game), a fix for an endless black screen when loading some multiplayer games and less stuttering with V-Sync on AMD cards. Its notes do not mention the volume bug below.

Is Enshrouded worth starting or returning to now?

The numbers suggest plenty of people think so. Steam's weekly most-played chart on 20 October listed Enshrouded at 29th with a peak of 90,443 concurrent players, up from outside the top 100 the week before, and 31,696 people were playing at 08:07 UTC on a Tuesday morning. Its Steam reviews read "Very Positive", 85.9% of 109,184, a figure that includes the Early Access years; our Enshrouded 1.0 review roundup separates the reviews written since launch.

Returning Early Access players get the most from a new world, as Keen suggests; if you keep the old one, at least rebuild your skill tree before exploring. New players on PS5 or PC are buying the finished map, and our Enshrouded beginner guide covers the first hours. Xbox players have a wait, and anyone hoping to play across platforms should treat crossplay as unannounced.

FAQ

Do I need to buy Enshrouded again for 1.0?

No. Keen Games' launch FAQ says players who bought Enshrouded on PC during Early Access do not need to buy it again for 1.0.

Will my Enshrouded Early Access save work in 1.0?

Yes. Early Access saves load in 1.0 and are converted to a new save format, but the skill tree is reset, so re-spend your points. Keen recommends a new world because the early game was reworked.

Is Enshrouded crossplay?

No. Keen Games says Enshrouded is not cross-platform at launch; it is working on cross-platform play but has no estimate for when it will arrive.

Is Enshrouded on Xbox?

Not yet. Enshrouded 1.0 launched on PC and PS5 on 15 October 2026; the Xbox Series X|S version is planned for spring 2027.

What is the max level in Enshrouded 1.0?

The player level cap is 50 and gear can be upgraded to level 55, according to Keen Games' 1.0 changelog.

How do I get the Enshrouded Early Access rewards?

Early Access owners claim three decorative props (a statue, a tome and a signal light) from the "Redeem Add-Ons" button in the escape menu. If they were missing, hotfix 1.0.0.3 of 21 October fixed this for affected players.
