Battlefield 6 Season 5, Siege of Vegas, began on 13 October 2026 with two new maps (Vegas Strip and Area 51), four new weapons, a new Battle Pass and Rapid Royale for REDSEC. The rest of the season is already dated by EA: the Dead Space crossover runs from 20 October to 10 November, the Casino Heist update lands on 10 November and Frozen Aces follows on 8 December.

This guide is built on EA's Game Update 2.1.1.0 notes, the official Season 5 roadmap published on 9 October and Battlefield Studios' Steam announcements, checked on 18 October 2026. Where EA has not given a detail, such as the season's end date, we say so rather than guess.

What are the new maps in Season 5?

Vegas Strip is the urban map. EA's notes say it supports all combat sizes, land vehicles and helicopters, mixing open sightlines along the Strip with hotel interiors, rooftop ziplines and storm drains built for close-quarters fights. Battlefield Studios' map breakdown names areas such as the Olympus Pools, the Olympus Lobby under a collapsed dome, and the Crater and Storm Drains, where tunnels offer a safer route through the middle of the map.

Area 51 is the vehicle map. Jets, helicopters and tanks hold the desert surface, while a fresh crater opens an underground facility where three objectives are packed into tunnels, garages and abandoned labs. The Air Traffic Control tower starts the match as a sniper nest over much of the battlefield and can be brought down; once it falls, the fight shifts to the rubble below.

A third map, the infantry-focused European Casino, arrives with the Casino Heist update on 10 November. In REDSEC, Rapid Royale plays out across Vegas Strip and Mirak Valley.

What are the four new weapons?

All four arrived on 13 October and work in both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. EA describes their roles but has not published damage tables for them, so treat any confident "best loadout" from the first week with caution.

WeaponTypeWhat EA says
Mk 24Assault rifleSmaller magazine, steady rate of fire, deadlier at longer ranges
RSPRPDW (the roadmap calls it an SMG)Rifle cartridge with high stopping power; better at range than most PDWs but with heavier recoil; sits between the SG 553R and SCW-10
Z84MLight machine gunBelt-fed, 100-round box, high damage and rate of fire at close range, significant recoil
ELR-40Bolt-action sniper rifleBest bullet drag and furthest sweet spot of its type; a single-shot ammo option moves the sweet spot to close range

Battlefield Studios' 9 October Steam post promised six new weapons and two new vehicles across the whole season, so two more guns are still to come. The roadmap names one vehicle so far, the B-81 Cavalry, which arrives with Frozen Aces on 8 December alongside unnamed new weapons and gear.

What is Rapid Royale, and is Ranked Battle Royale live?

Rapid Royale is a faster take on REDSEC's battle royale: Trios or Solos matches with fewer players, airdrops carrying some of the best loot in the game, the fastest Ring of Fire yet, and redeploys earned through kills. EA pitches it as the mode for players who want shorter, more aggressive matches.

Ranked Battle Royale moved out of Battlefield Labs testing and launched officially with Season 5, with redesigned rank badges and new rewards. REDSEC's Open Series also starts this season; the Elite Series, which EA says carries cash prizes, arrives later and has no date yet.

REDSEC classes changed too. According to EA's Season 5 preview, the Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher alternate training paths are gone, Support's Supply Bag and Smoke Launcher and Recon's drone moved into the loot pool, and Engineers now start with the guided function of the Aim-Guided Launcher already unlocked.

What changed in update 2.1.1.0?

The headline balance change is anti-air. Battlefield Studios wrote that mobile AA cannons were not punishing aircraft enough, while the Scout Helicopter's rockets were too effective against infantry. The notes push both the other way:

Selected Battlefield 6 vehicle and gadget changes. Source: Game Update 2.1.1.0 notes, published 12 October 2026
ChangeBeforeAfter
35mm High Velocity AA damage vs jets32.562.5
35mm High Velocity AA damage vs helicopters2645
Anti-Armor AA shell rate of fire240 rpm (8-round magazine)480 rpm (4-round magazine)
Mobile AA base turret rotation speedBase+50%
70mm light rocket splash damageBase−30%
Rocket pod resupply cooldown28 seconds38 seconds
Light rocket hits to destroy a Scout Helicopter47
MBT / IFV regeneration, critical to full health6.66 s / 7 s8 s
LTLM II laser designation duration9 seconds2 seconds

In practice, advice written before 13 October is now out of date in three places: Scout Helicopter rocket runs no longer one-shot infantry at the most common distances, mobile AA is a real threat to jets rather than a deterrent, and keeping a laser lock on a vehicle now needs constant tracking. Battlefield Studios also said a change making low-flying aircraft easier to hit with infantry lock-on missiles needs more testing and is not in this update.

Most infantry changes target REDSEC: several rifle, carbine, SMG and LMG families now need one more bullet to kill armoured players at set ranges, sniper and DMR ammunition drops from 70 to 60 rounds, and the SVDM's recoil kicks further sideways. The official notes run long; Insider Gaming's patch notes summary is a shorter read.

What's in the Season 5 Battle Pass and BF Pro?

The Season 5 Battle Pass has six instant unlocks, four themed paths and more than 100 tiers of rewards. Battlefield Pro, the paid upgrade, adds full Battle Pass access, 25 tier skips, an exclusive bonus path, six exclusive instant unlocks, a 15% XP boost, new vehicle-radio music, persistent Portal server hosting and 100-player Portal servers, according to the 2.1.1.0 notes.

The new Game of the Year Edition, announced on 13 October, bundles the game with one BF Pro token redeemable in any season and the Ultimate Shortcut Kit for all four classes. One inconsistency: that listing describes the token's booster as +5% XP, while the Season 5 notes list a 15% XP boost for BF Pro, and EA has not explained the difference.

When is the Dead Space event?

Battlefield 6 x Dead Space: Convergence runs from 20 October to 10 November in both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. Its main mode, Marker Incursion, is a 16-player PvE experience against AI-controlled Marked Soldiers, with a Pulse Rifle battle pickup and the goal of destroying the Marker beneath Area 51.

Rewards listed in the notes: the "Aegis VII" soldier skin, the "RIG-Certified" SMG weapon package, two weapon stickers, soldier patches, a player card background and two in-game bundles. EA has not said how many of them are free and how many sit in the bundles.

Can you still play Battlefield 6 for free?

On Steam, yes, until Tuesday 20 October at 17:00 UTC (18:00 CEST, 13:00 EDT). The Full Game Trial opens every available map and mode, and Battlefield Studios extended it, along with the 2x XP weekend, after the trial failed for some players on its first day. During the trial the Steam store lists the Standard Edition at $27.99, 60% off $69.99 (US store, checked 18 October 2026).

If you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, Battlefield 6 has been in the library since 13 October; our Game Pass October wave 1 report has the rest of that list. REDSEC, the battle royale, is free to play regardless.

Plenty of players are taking the offer. Battlefield 6 climbed from 37th to 20th in Steam's weekly most-played chart with a peak of 71,541 concurrent players, and 46,682 were in game at 08:05 UTC on 18 October. Steam reviews remain Mixed at 63.4% positive across 374,888 reviews, so the trial is the cheapest way to make up your own mind.

Battlefield's big rival arrives next week: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on 23 October, and our report on Modern Warfare 4's early Steam reviews compares it with every Call of Duty on the platform. Everything we publish on Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, including updates to this guide when Casino Heist and Frozen Aces land, collects on our Battlefield 6 hub.
