AION 2 Classes Explained: All 8 Classes and Which One to Pick

AION 2's global version has eight classes and no Brawler yet. What each one does according to NC, which roles groups need, and how to pick without rerolling.

AION 2 launched worldwide on 5 October 2026 with eight classes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. If you want a safe first character, pick by role rather than by damage chart: Templar to tank, Cleric to heal, Chanter for support, and any of the other five to deal damage.

This guide is built on NC's own class descriptions, its press releases on the Korean and Taiwanese version, the global Steam announcements up to 11 October 2026 and launch coverage from Inven Global and Massively Overpowered. Community opinion from r/Aion2 is labelled as such. We have not played the game; nothing here is a hands-on impression.

What are the eight AION 2 classes?

NC revealed the lineup in May 2025 and gave each class a one-line pitch. The global build kept the same eight. Four fight in melee range and four from a distance, and the group roles split into one tank, one healer, one support and five damage dealers.

A naming note: NC's English press releases from Korea have used "Marksman" and, in the March 2026 class overhaul, "Elementalist". Global players and r/Aion2 call these the Ranger and the Spiritmaster, the names carried over from the original AION.

Which classes tank, heal and support?

The Templar is the only class NC describes as a tank. The Gladiator sits next to it: in a June 2026 developer Q&A reported by Inven Global, the team called its identity "Damage-Tank" and said earlier calling it a tank had been a mistake. In practice that makes it a damage dealer that can cover for a missing Templar in easier content.

The Cleric is the healer, and NC has buffed its damage more than once (the May 2025 reveal and the June 2026 Q&A both say so) so it has something to do between heals. The Chanter is the hybrid: Massively Overpowered described it as a DPS and support mix after the September stress test, and it fights in melee with party buffs on top. On r/Aion2 the Chanter is the class most often suggested as a group's second support next to a Cleric.

Which class should you pick?

Start from what you want to do most of the time. NC's Steam page lists solo challenges, 5-player party content and 10-player group dungeons, plus the Abyss for faction PvP, so every class will see a mix of all four. The table below matches common goals to the class that fits them on paper.

Is the Brawler coming to the global version?

Eventually, probably, but there is no date. The Brawler arrived in Korea and Taiwan with the Chapter 1 update in July 2026. NC describes it as a front-line class using Gauntlets: attacks build Rage, and a full gauge triggers a Rampage state. The same update raised the Korean level cap to 50 and gave every player one free character slot to try the new class.

The global version launched without it. Massively Overpowered reported in September that it would not initially be included in the western release, and none of NC's global Steam announcements up to 11 October 2026 mention it. If the Brawler is the class you want, the honest choice is between starting now on something else and waiting with no date in sight.

Can you change class or reroll later?

You cannot change the class of an existing character: no class change item has been announced for the global version, so a new class means a new character. NC did make rerolling cheaper at launch. The 4–5 October maintenance cut the character deletion wait from 168 hours to 24 and lowered the minimum level to delete a character from 10 to 1.

Slots matter if you want several classes on one server. NC's server transfer pricing notice charges 1,000 Quna for each extra character slot needed on the destination server, and slots you bought stay on the server where you bought them. Our guide to AION 2 servers and transfers covers the rest of that process.

Does your class choice matter as much as you think?

Less than the forum threads suggest. Massively Overpowered's stress-test impressions found "very little separating the classes mechanically": each has a spammable mana generator, a spammable mana spender and a set of longer cooldowns. The game offers both tab targeting and an action mode, which the same piece compared to Elder Scrolls Online's soft lock, so control style is a setting rather than a class trait.

Community comments point the same way. In a 27 September r/Aion2 thread, one player put the training-dummy damage gap between a Ranger and a Templar at about 8%, a single player's measurement rather than a benchmark. The more practical warning came from an August thread where posters expected far more healers than groups need. Melee or ranged, and which role you enjoy, will shape your evenings more than a few percent of damage.

What changed for classes in Korea, and does it apply to global?

The Korean and Taiwanese version has been live since November 2025 and has had several balance passes. The biggest was the March 2026 class overhaul, which added a new Stigma skill to each class, introduced Perfect Shield Block and Perfect Parry, and stopped Immune and Immortal effects being applied back to back within 30 seconds.

Stigma skills added to each class in the March 2026 Korean/Taiwanese update, as named in NC's English press release. English client names may differ (checked 11 October 2026).

In August, Inven Global reported further Korean changes: healing amplification for the Cleric and Chanter now scales with Attack, the Gladiator's key offensive skills gained 3% PvE damage, and every class was getting "concept enhancements" from 26 August. The global servers are a separate build without Chapter 1's Brawler, and NC has not said which of these changes it contains, so treat Korean tier lists and balance talk with care.

Class is a free choice; progression is where the money questions start. Our explainer on whether AION 2 is pay to win covers the membership, Quna and the Daeva Pass, and the AION 2 hub collects every guide and news story we have published on the game. We will update this page when NC dates the Brawler or publishes global class balance notes.

FAQ

How many classes are in AION 2?

The global version has eight: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. The Korean and Taiwanese version has a ninth, the Brawler, added in July 2026.

Can you change class in AION 2?

No class change item has been announced for the global version. Playing a different class means creating a new character. Since the 5 October maintenance you can delete a character from level 1 and the deletion wait is 24 hours instead of 168.

Is the Brawler in AION 2 global?

Not at launch. Massively Overpowered reported in September that the Brawler would not initially be included in the western version, and NC's Steam announcements up to 11 October 2026 do not give it a date.

Which AION 2 class is the healer?

The Cleric is the dedicated healer. The Chanter is a support class that mixes melee damage, party buffs and some healing, so groups often treat it as a second support rather than the main healer.

What is the best AION 2 class for solo play?

NC's own launch description calls the Spiritmaster the class optimised for solo play. Ranged damage dealers such as the Ranger are also common solo picks on r/Aion2, but no class is locked out of solo content.

Is there an official AION 2 tier list?

No. NC publishes balance patches, not rankings. Community tier lists exist, but they are built on the Korean and Taiwanese balance state, which is not the same build as the global servers.
