Slay the Spire 2 Roadmap: Next Update, 1.0 Release and What's Coming
Slay the Spire 2 has had no patch since 14 August. Here is every update so far, what Mega Crit's roadmap still promises and what it has said about 1.0.

First published. Checked against every Slay the Spire 2 announcement on Steam up to the September 2026 Neowsletter; no newer patch as of 15 October 2026.
There is no date for the next Slay the Spire 2 update. Mega Crit's September 2026 Neowsletter says only that the team is back from its break and testing content internally that is "BIG", with no timeline. The last patch of any kind was beta v0.111.0 on 14 August 2026, and the last main-branch update was Major Update #2 on 19 June.
This guide is built from every announcement Mega Crit has posted on the game's Steam page since the Early Access launch on 5 March 2026, plus the Early Access FAQ on the store page and Steam's own player and review data. Checked on 15 October 2026: no newer patch, roadmap or Neowsletter had been published.
When is the next Slay the Spire 2 update?
Mega Crit warned this would happen. The August 2026 Neowsletter said the team had shifted from small, frequent patches to "bigger, more impactful content", that updates would come further apart for a while, and that it could not guarantee the pace. It also said new content would be at least a month away from the beta branch. That month has turned into two.
The pattern so far suggests what to expect: new content lands on the optional beta branch first, gets reworked across several beta patches, and only then reaches everyone in a bundled "Major Update". So when the next patch arrives, it will most likely be beta-only, and main-branch players should expect a further wait of several weeks. Major Update #1 bundled four beta versions; Major Update #2 bundled four more.
The wait is visible in the community. A r/slaythespire post that simply repeats "Game design takes time and I can be patient" reached 1,166 upvotes after it was posted on 18 September, and a thread asking which fan-made cards might make "the next patch" reached 954 upvotes on 11 October.
Every Slay the Spire 2 update so far
Mega Crit ran weekly beta patches after launch, moved to a fortnightly cadence in May, and stopped regular patches in August. The table lists the milestones, not every hotfix.
| Date | Version | Branch | What it brought |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 March 2026 | Early Access launch | Main | Five characters, up to four-player co-op, $24.99 |
| 13 March 2026 | v0.99 | Beta | Public beta branch opens; first bug-fix and art patch |
| 17 April 2026 | v0.103.2 (Major Update #1) | Main | All beta changes from v0.100.0 to v0.103.1 |
| 17 April 2026 | Neowsletter | — | First official roadmap |
| 23 May 2026 | Neowsletter | — | Beta moves from weekly to fortnightly; Doormaker removed on beta |
| 19 June 2026 | v0.107.1 (Major Update #2) | Main | RNG rework, Steam Workshop, Bestiary, Aeonglass replaces Doormaker as Act 3 boss |
| 3 July – 31 July 2026 | v0.108.0 to v0.110.0 | Beta | Balance changes, reworks and reverts, new art |
| 14 August 2026 | v0.111.0 | Beta | Card reworks, Indonesian localisation, low-HP idle animations |
| 25 September 2026 | Neowsletter | — | No patch timeline; teaser for a new area of the Spire |
The biggest change for main-branch players is still Major Update #2. It fixed correlated random number generators that let players predict parts of a run, added Steam Workshop support for mods, put the Bestiary in the Compendium and swapped the Doormaker for a new Act 3 boss, Aeonglass. If you only play on main, everything after 19 June, including the balance changes behind our Slay the Spire 2 character tier list, is still beta-only.
What is on the Slay the Spire 2 roadmap?
Mega Crit published its only formal roadmap in the April 2026 Neowsletter, split into features, content and things "further off". In August it revisited the list and marked what had shipped and what it was actively working on. Combining the two gives this status.
| Roadmap item | Group (April) | Status (August update) |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Workshop support | Features | Added (main, 19 June) |
| The Bestiary | Features | Initial version added (main, 19 June) |
| More languages | Features | Traditional Chinese and Indonesian added |
| Badge and score system | March plan | Added |
| Experimental game modes | Features | Actively in development |
| Alternate Act 2 | Content | Actively in development |
| New character | Content | Actively in development |
| Alternate Act 3 | Content | Not yet started, per the August list |
| More cards, events, relics, potions | Content | Ongoing |
| Console and mobile ports | Further off | Not started |
| Steam achievements and trading cards | Further off | Planned for v1.0 |
| "True Victory" and true ending | Further off | Not started |
"Not started" here means the August list did not include the item among things added or actively worked on; Mega Crit has not said it is shelved. The studio also wrote in April that it will not massively expand the team to finish faster, and that it chooses each week's work by what feels most impactful, so the order of the list is not a release order.
What has Mega Crit teased for the next big update?
Three things are confirmed as in progress: experimental game modes, an alternate Act 2 and a new character. Mega Crit has not said whether they will ship together. In August it posted a deliberately unhelpful image of a foot instead of a preview, writing that the team hates spoilers.
The September Neowsletter revived "Spire Spotting", the teaser segment the studio used before launch. It says researchers have found another area of the Spire "still shrouded in darkness" and shows the silhouette of one inhabitant, described as small, floating and excitable. Mega Crit did not say which act the area belongs to. An alternate Act 2 is the obvious candidate, since it is the content item furthest along, but that is our inference, not an announcement.

When will Slay the Spire 2 leave Early Access?
There is no 1.0 date. The Early Access section of the Steam store page answers "Until the game feels great!", then notes that the first game was expected to take about a year and took about a year and a half, "so perhaps in the same 1 - 2 year range". Counted from 5 March 2026, that window runs from March 2027 to March 2028.
The same page lists what the full version should add over Early Access: more gameplay content, a true ending, various game modes, better balance, bug fixes, wider hardware compatibility, fancier visual effects and more languages. Steam achievements are tied to 1.0 too: asked about them in the August Q&A, Mega Crit's Casey Yano answered simply "The v1.0 release". For comparison, Path of Exile 2 is set to spend almost exactly two years in early access, as our guide to the Path of Exile 2 full release explains.
Will Slay the Spire 2 cost more at 1.0?
Yes. The store page says plainly that the price will increase after Early Access, without giving a figure. The game was $24.99 on Steam in the US on 15 October 2026. If you already plan to buy it, Early Access is the cheaper moment; if you want a finished game with a true ending and achievements, the 1.0 release is the one to wait for.
Mega Crit has also said mobile ports, and the touchscreen controls players have asked for, belong to a later push. The April roadmap places ports to other consoles and mobile in its "further off in the future" group, so there is no console version to wait for in the near term.
How do you join the Slay the Spire 2 beta branch?
The beta branch is where new content appears first, and Mega Crit's v0.99 patch notes give the steps. It is optional and free for anyone who owns the game on Steam.
- Right-click Slay the Spire 2 in your Steam Library.
- Choose Properties, then Game Versions & Betas.
- Select public-beta and let Steam download the update. To go back, select None in the same menu.
Are people still playing while they wait?
Yes, in large numbers. Mega Crit said in its March 2026 Neowsletter that the game sold 3,000,000 units in its first week, with more than 25 million runs attempted. Seven months later it is still one of Steam's most-played games, though the review picture is more mixed.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Players in game | 56,088 |
| Steam weekly most-played chart | #11 (#13 the week before) |
| All reviews, every language | 61% positive of 205,077 (Mixed) |
| All reviews, English | 92% positive of 77,911 (Very Positive) |
| Last 30 days, English (store page) | 72% positive of 3,685 (Mostly Positive) |
Two caveats. Steam does not explain the gap between the English and all-language scores, and we have not found a reliable source that does, so we are not guessing at the cause. And the dip in recent English reviews coincides with the patch drought, but Steam does not record why people change their mind; read it as a signal, not a verdict.

FAQ
When is the next Slay the Spire 2 update?
There is no date. The September 2026 Neowsletter said Mega Crit could not give a timeline for the next patch, only that the content being tested internally is big. The last beta patch was v0.111.0 on 14 August 2026 and the last main-branch update was v0.107.1 on 19 June.
When does Slay the Spire 2 leave Early Access?
Mega Crit has not set a 1.0 date. Its Steam page says Early Access will last until the game feels great, probably one to two years, since the first game took about 18 months. Counting from the 5 March 2026 launch, that points to some time between spring 2027 and spring 2028.
Is a new character coming to Slay the Spire 2?
Yes. A new character is on the official roadmap, and the August 2026 Neowsletter listed it among the things the team is actively working on, alongside an alternate Act 2 and experimental game modes. Mega Crit has not named the character or given a date.
Does Slay the Spire 2 have Steam achievements?
Not yet. Asked in the August 2026 Neowsletter when achievements would arrive, Mega Crit's Casey Yano answered: the v1.0 release. Steam trading cards are in the same "further off" group on the April roadmap.
How do I join the Slay the Spire 2 beta branch?
In your Steam Library, right-click Slay the Spire 2, open Properties, then Game Versions & Betas, and select public-beta. Beta patches arrive before the main branch and can be reworked or reverted, so expect more bugs and balance swings.
Will Slay the Spire 2 get more expensive?
Yes. The Early Access section of the Steam page says the price will increase after Early Access. It was $24.99 on Steam in the US when we checked on 15 October 2026; Mega Crit has not announced the 1.0 price.
