Mass Effect: Universe is the name shown on a leaked internal trailer for the next Mass Effect game, which BioWare was developing in early pre-production until Electronic Arts closed the studio and cancelled the project on 21 October 2026. IGN, which verified the trailer, notes that it is unclear whether Universe would have been the final title.

The project was first confirmed on N7 Day, 7 November 2020, alongside Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and teased again in 2023. IGN's reporting and earlier BioWare teases point to a return to the Milky Way long after the Reaper war of the original trilogy, with Liara T'Soni among the returning characters. Michael Gamble led the project and said in November 2025 that it was still in development.

EA's letter to staff said only a small team was working on the game. The leaked footage, built with pre-production assets, is the only public look at it, and EA has not released it officially. This hub collects our coverage of the cancelled game and of what happens next to the Mass Effect series, including the Amazon TV adaptation that is reportedly still in development.
